Do Something Great In 2008!

Dear Friends of Zooh Corner,

I would like to invite you all to join Zooh Corner Rabbit Rescue in literally raising the roof for the rabbits of the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society!

As you may know, our all-volunteer group is 100% responsible for caring for the bunnies at this shelter via our "Friends of Shelter Rabbits" program. We provide and pay for daily care and access to medical services including spay/neuter. We also handle all rabbit adoptions, carefully screening and educating potential adopters to ensure that placements are into safe, loving forever homes. Since our involvement, the shelter's rabbit euthanasia rate has dropped from more than 70% to zero, which means that bunnies are getting a much-deserved second chance at a life filled with happiness, security, and human compassion.

In 2007 we began making plans for realizing a long-held dream: to completely renovate the shelter's rabbit area to make it safer and more comfortable for the rabbits, our volunteers, and potential adopters and other visitors. Our Build for the Bunnies project includes new flooring (currently the area has a potholed dirt floor), new roofing, a better cooling system, and custom-designed three-level bunny condos, which are now being hand-constructed by our volunteers. The total estimated project cost is $10,000.

To date, we have already raised $3,500 in lead gifts from our volunteers. In addition, our volunteers have pledged up to an additional $2,000 in matching funds for monies raised from our community by July 31, 2008. What this means is that every dollar contributed by individuals, businesses, and foundations before July 31 will be matched, dollar for dollar, by our volunteers, in effect doubling the gift!

We are asking you to consider making a gift of any amount to help us Build for the Bunnies. This is the first time Zooh Corner is undertaking such a massive project, and it's our one big opportunity to dramatically improve conditions for our shelter rabbits, and to create an environment that clearly demonstrates to the public that rabbits are no less deserving than dogs and cats of clean, safe, comfortable accommodations. While all of our volunteers work hard to keep up the bunny area the best we can, the truth is that right now we can't adequately protect the bunnies from the cold, rain--and especially the heat--nor can we keep the area from looking rundown, dirty, and unwelcoming to potential volunteers and adopters. This project will enable us to do all these things, and more.

All donations will be promptly receipted and are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law, and donors will be recognized in our publications, on our website, and on signage in the bunny area. Gifts may be made by check using the enclosed envelope or online by credit card at www.mybunny.org. The enclosed flyer and newsletter include additional details about the project.
