Humane Society International (HSI) reports on the recent launch of the Cruelty-Free Cosmetics Act, a bill launched to prohibit animal testing for cosmetics in Canada, as well as blocking the sale of all cosmetics that have been recently tested on animals. They have been working closely with the Animal Alliance of Canada (AAC)and Senator Carolyn Stewart Olsen of New Brunswick to bring this bill forward. From their post:
Troy Seidle, director of research and toxicology for Humane Society International, said: “Today is an historic day for animals in Canada thanks to Senator Stewart Olsen’s leadership in championing this progressive legislation. We look forward to working with Senator Stewart Olsen and our national industry to make Canada the next country to #BeCrueltyFree.”
As a rabbit rescue, we strive to advocate for the health and well-being of rabbits, and have reported on other worldwide efforts to end the cruel and ineffective testing practices in cosmetics. We applaud the efforts of HSI, AAC, and government officials working toward the #BeCrueltyFree campaign. If you wish to make a difference, here are some things you can do:
- Support the Leaping Bunny Program and go Cruelty-Free by using products that are certified not to use new animal testing in any phase of product development.
- Sign the HSI pledge to be Cruelty-Free by stating that you believe animals shouldn’t suffer and die to test cosmetics or other ingredients.
- Spread the word!!
